#Supported Hardware

Edge Hub is designed to run on rugged, DIN-rail industrial gateways at the edge of the machine — close to the PLC and the field bus, with no fans and a wide operating-temperature range. The reference platform is the Siemens SIMATIC IOT2050 Advanced.

Siemens SIMATIC IOT2050 Advanced · order no. 6ES7647-0BA00-1YA2

An open, Arm-based industrial IoT gateway. Dual Gigabit Ethernet lets Edge Hub sit between the plant network and the machine network, while the RS-232/422/485 COM port and the field-bus connection feed the PLC and IO-Link data that the rules engine evaluates.

#Why this platform

  • Fanless and rated for the cabinet. 0–50 °C, DIN-rail mount, 24 V DC — it installs next to the PLC, not in a server room.
  • Two isolated Ethernet ports. Keep the plant/OT network and the machine network separate while Edge Hub bridges data between them.
  • Enough compute for continuous recording and rule evaluation. The quad-core A53 handles PLC frame decoding, IO-Link polling, and the rules engine hot path with headroom to spare.
  • Standard Linux. Edge Hub ships as a normal Linux service — no proprietary runtime — so it deploys and updates like any other container/systemd workload.

Other Arm64 or x86-64 Linux gateways with two Ethernet ports and a field-bus connection can run Edge Hub as well; the IOT2050 Advanced is simply the validated reference.
